The statutory meeting of the Kaihiku school , committee held on Monday, resulted ia the election of the following'committee : — Messrs: John Watt, Jus. Brownlie' : Jobn Johnston, GeorgeJphnstqn, falter Nicole, Wm. ; Munro, Robert Sutherland, Joseph Anderson, and Win . Chisholm . The last three names, are new members, the others having been re-elected. lovell's fj.a* At the regular rnonthly mfleting of the Education Board held on the 12th inst, the secretary read a memorial from settlers at Loyell's Flat, requesting that their school might be amalgamated with the Tuakitoto School. They wishrd to know what assistances the (.lovernment would ffive tovvards building the school. The Chairman : Suppose we give them pound for pound. Mr Gillies : I should think, they might use the chu»;ch tliere. The Board resolved to give the memorialists pound for pDurid. ■•- 3 ■ MATAURA, The school committee enquired by letter to the Education Bor.i, whether the 'Board was in a position to. give them a more suitable school building than they now possessed. They were prepared to raise money for the purpose. The number of children fit for school was nearly doubled since Mr Hislop visited the Matanra. The Secretary : There is a very suitable site reserved at Matauva, and T was in, hopes of getting a suitable building this vear. We may obtain it next year. The Chairman : Tbe pr-pspnt building is a large place. We had better inform them that we have no funds at present. Referred to the Executive. PROVINCIAL SCHOLARSHIP?. We extract the following from a statement read bv the secretary to the Education Board : — Boys' District Schools — Total marks obtained were 950 : Howie M Peking, 15 years^ Warepa, 71.4 marks, or 75 1 per cen-tao-e — Thrpe years' free education. William M'Ewpn, 14 years 9 months, East Clntha, 466 marks, or 46 per cpntage. D. J. M*Evven, 12 year? 9 montbs, East Clutha, 414 marks, or 43 5 per centage. George Henderson, 12 years 9 months. East Clutha, 396 marks, or 41-6 per centage. J. R. A. Henderson, 14 years 8 months, East Clutha, 327 marks, or 34*4 per centage. The examination was conducted under great disadvantage through the measles, some actually coming from their beds and returning again. CLINTON. The annual election of a school com-mittee-ibr Clinton repulted in the election of the following :— Messrs Robert Steele, Muir. Gharlton, Campbell, Wallace, and Clifford.
