The following are the latest items of Australian news : — Melbourne, Oct. 26. — A thunder storm at Wodonga caused great damage to the crops, and the flood water washed away portions of the railway line. The rivers are very high, but no floods are anticipated. Sydney. — The Victorian rifle team, on the arrival of the Rangatira, was escorted by a number of volunteers to the Victoria barracks. King Cakobau's son is a passenger from Fiji by the Pearl. During a heavy thunderstorm last night, the lightning struck the spire of the Wesieyan Church at Glebe, and also two houses at Balmain. The Leicester, from London, reports seeing a ship, apparently American, of 1000 tons, burning in long. 2 W., lat. 37 S., on the 11th September. There was no sign of the crew. The import markets opened dull. An influential public meeting, held at the Chamber of Commerce, resolved to urge upon the Government to establish a direct Californian mail service, irrespective of New Zealand. The son of Mr Smith, auctioneer, was killed by lightening at Wollongong.
