BALCLUTHA TOWN COUNCIL

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Town Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. There were present, his Worship tbe Mayor presiding, and Councillors Dunne, Kilgour, Stewart, Mason, and M'Neil.

The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed,

The Clerk reported that according to instructions at last meeting he" had ordered from Great Britain a public weigh-bridge for the Corporation. :•:':'..

A* letter was read from Mr. Joseph RobertspL, intimating that he,, proposed erecting a dividing fence between the half of section 5, owned by him, arid the half of that section belonging to the Corporation; and requesting that some of the Councillors might be appointed to confer with him upon the subject. *'= ':'■•"'

In reply to Councillor Dunne the Clerk stated that the section had originally cost the Council the sum of L6O. This did not include the expenses of conveyance, etc. A discussion ensued upon tbe subject of the propriety ot leasing, selling, or otherwise disposing of the section. Ultimately r'S Councillor Dunne moved that the same be at once sold by auction.

Seconded by Councillor Kilgour * and carried*, ,

The following accounts were passed and' ordered to be paid:— John Proven, cartage, L 2 10s.; John Barty, L 3 17s. 6d. i

The Clerk also mentioned that a small account was due the, 4 Bruce Herald,' hut that Mr. Mackay was due the Corporation a contra account. He was. instructed to to have the matter arranged. ! A letter was read from Mr. Massey,,Gity. Clerk, Dunedin, in reply, as to the adoption of bye- laws by the Corporation. It was resolved that a- special meeting be held on Thursday evening (to-night) to comidt-r the whole matter.

Tbe fees for depasturing licenses on the town reserve were fixed same as last year, viz., 30s. per annum— these to be granted to ratepayers only.

Councillor M'Neil requested. that the motion of which he had given notice as to the propriety of borrowing a sum. of money, on debentures for the improvement, of the municipality be allowed tyjay .over till next meeting. , ■' ""• .7 Agreed to. The meeting then adjourned.
