Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report :— Fat Cattle.— The number yarded was 180, and this being beyond the requirements of the trade, a coneiderable portion, consisting of middling quality was Sold for grazing. Horses.— There Is a good demand for both heavy draughts and horses adapted for light harness. We shall offer at onr yards on Saturday, 20th inst., on account of John Bi Blair, Esq., a first-class ship, ment oT heaVy draught mares and geldings, ex Otago, from Melbourne, among which are some very Superior prize draught mares. We shall also offer two extra fine Clydesdale, entire edits, by Renfrew and Prince of Wales. We quote firstclass draught mares, LBO to L 10 0; medium dp, L 35 to L 4 5; good hacks and light harness horses, l.2s to L 3 5; medium do, Lls to L2O ; light and inferior, 1.5 ta I/?. * , Statiou Property.— We have to report tht. sale of Mr. Francis Fielding's runs, Nos. 3j» and '424, consistingnt 60,000 acres leasehold country at Switzers, together with 1,200. head of cattle, 7,500 sheep, 10 horses, and working plant, for the sum of 1.11,000, the purchaser being David MKeliar, Esq., of Waikaia Plain. ; Woo).— At our weekly sale, we sold several small lots of slipe and scoured at from 14Jd to 18d ! per lb. , The telegraphio advices of the home market, received try the Otago, are hardly so satisfactory, being as follows :— •« September stb.— At the wool sa,leß, 116,000 bales, were sold, principally to the home trade. The tone of the market is now weaker. Messrs. Balme and Co., woolbrokers, report of the series that the advance on superior scoured fleece is Id ; low scoured, lid to 2d ; washed half-bred, id to lid ; greasy half-bred, Mto Id; greasy merino, Jd." Sheepskins.— There was a good attendance of buyers at our weekly sale. The quantity offered was small, but theie was good competition, and prices obtained were fully equal to last week's rates. ■ Our sales were as follows : — Butchers' green skins, half-bred, 6s Id to 6s Sd ; merino, 4s 8d to 4s lid ; station skins, Is lid to 4s Id. Hides are in good demand. We sold several lots at about last week's figures. Light-weights brought 14a 3d to 15b 6d ; medium do, 19s ad -, call ' skins, 2 s Sdeach. 'Grain.— Wheat remains, quiet, and $n limited inquiry. We quote good milling parcels at 4s 9d to 5s per bushel ; medium, 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; fowls' feed, 3s 6d to 4s. Oats are scarce, and in good demand at 4s 3d to 4s 4d for feed, and 4s tid for m.Uling. Barley is neglected ; good malting is worth 6's-to 5s 3d ; inferior, 4* to 4s 6<L CHKISTCHtTRCH. Mr.' Bockland reports :— Store Cattle: A full supply in request at fuU rates. Fat Cattle : Prices higher— 40s to 47s 6d per 1001 b. Sheep: Late prices sustained— fat, 5d per lb. ; ewes and lambs, 28s 6d per couple ; fat lambs, 10s to 18s each. Mr. &. W. Binney reports :— The grain market improving in some lines. Oats, scarce, 5s 3d to 5s 6d ; wheat, dull, 6s ; iiour, L l3, fully stocked ; bran, L 7 10b; pollard, LB-, barley, ss; butter. Is 3d ; cheese, 8d ; ham and bacon, lOd to lid ; potatoes, LIU. Megbournk. The Argus reports.:-cThe market for breadstuff's is not lively, and there is little to report privaiely. Flour in bakers' lots continues to move off slowly at Ll3 10s to L13 12s 6d, bags returned Under the hammer, about 16 tons were cleared off at lA'l i?s 6d to Ll3. Wheat is not dealt in, but on the other hand oflerings are too trifling to induce buyers to come forward A small lot of medium was disposed of publicly at 5s 9d. For prijae we quote up to Bs. we note a much lurger business as having been done in oats, A small lot of Ca/ifornian was disposed of by auction at 4s JOd. Privately, a line of 12,000 bushels changed hands on terms withheld. 1,50u bushels Tasmanian were placed at 5s to 5s id, and a line of 1,450 bags Tasmanian is also stated to have been taken up. Maize has firmed under the influence of short supplies of late, and quotations, according to quantity, have been run up again to 4s 5d to 4s 9}d. Mailing barley has been quitted at 6s. There is a decidedly less gloomy feeling iv commercial circles than has prevailed, since the Launceston failures first became spoken of,, and this notwithstanding that the facts disclosed in the following telegram (kindly placed at our disposal by Messrs. Lyell and Gowan) are even worse than was first anticipated. .It is now stated that Peters; Barnard, and Co.'s direct liabilities are L55,i 00 ; contingent, L 150.00 0; ranking on estate, LN50.000 -, free assetts, L 15,000. Edlin and Co.'s liabilities to Melbourne creditors are Ll.800 ; and on account of accommodation, L 9.000 ; assets, L 2,000. Brand s liabilities to Melbourne, creditors, L 2,30 0; and on account of accommodation, LlO.000 ; asset's L 2.000. Kichol's liabilities to Melbourne creditors, L2.O00 ; for accommodation, L 5.00 0; to bank secured, L 0.50 0; assets probably LIO.OUO. Hubbard's liabilities to Melbourne creditors are 1.1,400 ; to Launceston creditors, LI.OOO : and for accommodation, L 9.700 ; assets, 1,2,000. Humors are afloat as to other houses having stopped, but in the meantime no definite information has been, received.— ln the corn and grain trade things have been brisk. We notice that oats are slightly firmer. In the produce market a fair amount of business is doing. We observe that potatoes are getting scarce.
