The following treatment has been found to extinguish' sorrel. Graze off the sorrel as close as possible by means of sheep; sow 6 lbs of white clover and 2 lbs of red clover; give a cast with light harrows*. Do not expect the clover to "choke the sorrel" right away; but you may look for it gradually taking possession of the ground and the sorrel dying* out. If you topdress with a compost containing lime, after the clover is up, so much the better — it will hasten the extinction of the sorrel. The older the pasture the better because it is stocked with a great variety of grasses, all of which are fine ; and fine grass is always nutritious. Newlyseeded pastures make poor feed, and the butter coming therefrom cannot be the best. It is stated in an exchange that many sheep are dying in the Wanganui district, chiefly in consequence of the scarcity of food. The mortality exists principally among the lambs,,.and perhaps in their case it is attributable, to some extent at least, to the cold, which is exceedingly severe in the. district at present _i _ __ ■
