THE COASTAL SERVICE.

To. the Editor of the Clutha Leader. Sir, —In your last issue I find a letter on the above subject from Mr. A. Stewart, in which he mikes some remarks regarding the Harbor Steam Company, and the handsome subsidy they received from Government while running a coastal steamer on the Molyneux trade. I may here state for the benefit of your readera that the Harbor Steam Company were receiving no subsidy for their coastal steamer during the few years they ran one on this trade, and that it could Dot possibly be on that account they withdrew their steamer. Tihe river steamer Tuaneka, when she last started an the Harbor Steam Company'b account, was promised a subsidy for three years, beginning, I think, with L3O per month, and decreasing each y.ear after. I bimply write thie,-8O that none of your readers who are interested in the coastal and river service may form a wrong opinion of the past services of the Harbor Steam Com", pany.—l am, &c, John Patjerson, Late Agent Harbor Steam Co.
