Drivell, Stewart & Co., Balclutha, report for the week ending Bth August— Fat Sheep. — Are selling at fair rates ; Bay, 3jd for good half-breds. Fat' Cattle.— Much inquired for ; 22s 6d to 25s i per lOOlbs. Mixed Stoh-es - .— ln- demand,* at L 2 lfls to L3. Gkain — Wholesale. — No alteration in previous rates. Wheat, 3s lOdto 4s per bushel; oats, 8s 6d to 3s 7d. Potatoes. — Are rising fast, and are not obtainable under L4 lss to L5. Carrots.-- In fair demand, at from L 3 10s to L 4 per ton. Messrs. Capstick, DinriiE & Co. report having sold at their Kooms, Tokomairiro, on Monday, 10th August — Strawberry Bank Farm, 536 a2r 12p— knocked down to Allan* Boyd, Esq., at L4 9s per acre. Section 93, Mr. M'Gill's subdivision of Milton, containing 1 rood, together with two shops and dwellinghouse, was withdrawn by vendor at LIOOO, the highest bid having been 1 1*700. Twenty-eight feet fronting the Main South Road; with shop known as the Old Post Office, was knocked down to MY. James Wyber, for the sum of L 385. Section 1, Geo. B. Brown's subdivision of Milton, containing one rood, was bid up to Ll 45— withdrawn by vendor at I*2oo. Section 3, Block I, Mr. P. M'GiU's subdivision of Milton, was withdrawn by vendor at LOO. At our wool and sheepskin sales on Saturdaystation Bkins fetched 3s 4d; pelts, is 3d to Is 9d each ; small hides 13s to 15s each. Wool (merino in grease), very dirty with tern, at 9d per lb. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson, & Co. report for the week ending August Bth as follows : — Fat Cattle. — The number yarded was below the ayerage, being only 70 head, of which we sold 28 head' at frOtti' L 5 . 15s to LlO. We quote prime quality beef 27s 6d to 30s per 1001 b. We also sold privately 30 head, delivered on' the station, at equal to 25s per 1001 b. Fat calves are in good request at from 25s to 50s each. Fat Sheep. — Eight hundred were penned. We sold 100 half-breds, small, at 15s 3d ; and 250 merino wethers, little better than stores, at Bs. We also sold privately, for forward delivery, 300 half-breds, at 4d per lb; 600 merinos at 3Jd per lb ; 400 half-breds, on run, at 15s each ; 300 merino wethers, at los Od each ; 300 half-breds, heavy weights, at 20s each; 300, Southdown wethers,- at . 14s 3d each. "We quote prime mutton, cross-bred;.4d-per lb ; merino, 3£d* Store Cattle.— We have inquiries for grown cattle, for delivery in September. We sold 80 head, mixed, at L3 IOB. Store Sheep.— Very few transactions are occurring. We have buyers for wethers, and have sold 650 Southdown ewes, in lamb, at 13s each. "We quote half-breds, 2 and 4-tooth, 12s to 13s; do, ewes, 15s to 16s; merino wethers, 7s to 7s 6d; do, ewes, fullmouthed, in lamb, 6s 6d to 7s 6d. Horses.— Heasvy draughts and strong-coachorcab horses arg the sorts most in request. • We quote first-class draughts, L6O to L 8 0; medium do, L35 to L 45 ; good hacks and light harness horses, L 25 to Li-0 ; medium do, 1/14 to Ll7 ;■ light and inferior, L4 to 1.7. Sheepskins.— Our sate on Wednesday was well attended, and thaprices obtained were fully equaA to last week's rates. We sold butchers' green skins, half-breds, 5s to 5s 6d each ; merinos. 3s 6d to 4s 3d ; station skins, Is 9d to 5s each, according to quality. Hides. — We offered 5*40 light and medium weights and disposed" of nearly the whole of the lots at satisfactory prices. Medium weights brought from 19s 6d to Ll 0s 6d ;• and light, 14s to 17s 3d each ; ■ heifer and calf-skins, Is to 8s each. \ Grain. — The market remains inactive" for all descriptions, but we cannot report any change in values. Wheat : Firßt-class samples are still worth 4s*>od to 5s per bushel ; medium, 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; fowls' food, 3s 9d to 4s. Oats are in fair request, at 4s 2d for feed, up to 4s 4d for prime milling samples.
Dunedin, Aug. 7. A. Mercer reports for the week ending- 31st July (retail price's only) — .-.*.-- Fresh butter still continues to be very scarce, and .anything, like passable, 2sper.lb.. Salt butter, on . that account is in good demand at is 63 and Is 8d per lb. Best cheese, lOd to Is per lb, and nothing but the best quality will sell. Side and rolled bacon, : lOd to Is per lb. Beef hams, 7d to'Bd per lb ; boiled do, 9d per lb j Colonial hams, Is. tb* Is 2d per lb ; English hams, Is 4d to Is 6d per lb, but very unsaleable.
