ifAVIGIATION OP THE MOLYNEUX. (To the Editor of the Clutha Leader.) Siiv— Having* had our attention directed to the article on the navigation ofthe Molyneux in your issue of the 31st ultimo, we therefore venture to address you to suggest the formation of a local company to carry out this object. It seems most extraordinary that such a splendid river as the Molyneux, said to discharge thirteen times more water than the Thames (London), should be flowing idly, to the sea, whilst, there are numerous settlers on its banks, possessed of land equal to any in the world, but much hampered by the v^ant of steam navigation on the river. If the settlers will not help themselves it is needless for them to look to Government or any body else for assistance, as the capital required would be a mere bagatelle. A local company, with a; capital of five thousand ponhdi 1 , and a" proportionate sum raised on debentures, if requisite, could , place a small fleet of steamers on your river tuft :ble for present retirements, and the operations of the company could be extended as trade developed. We would therefore suggest that the settlers call a public meeting of all those interested in this matter, with a view to forming such a company. As agents of Messrs. Yarrow and Hedley of London, whose speciality is the construction of such steamers, we would give the meetinsr all the information we possibly can on the subject.—We remain, &c., Dabling & Co. Princes -street, Dunedin, August 6. 1874. - — : + —
