Argentine Wants Fantastic Meat Prices
Received Friday, 7.15 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 30. The British Government is facing "fantastic" meat price demands from the Argentine and will take a mtieh tougher line with Senor • Peron at the devalaution talks which have been in session in Buettos Aires for the last three months, says the Daily Express's correspondent. The British Am- ■ bassador, Sir John Balfour, has . been told to "cut the haggling and i ask Peron to put his cards on the table at ,once." Argentina wants an increase in meat eharges of nearly 5d in the shilling and pay correspondingly less for contracted British coai and oil. Unless the demands are trimmed Britain may stop coai and oil shipments and make an earlier tevieW than schduled of future trade relations. Britain has already placed £50,000,000 of orders with the Argentine since the June trade pact.
