Typical Communist Purge In Soviet Zone
Received Friday 9.20 p.m. LONDON, Dee. 30. The first serious move against nonCommunist parties in East Germany since the formation of the new State is now under way, says the Daily Telegraph's Berlin correspondent. Five Liberal Democratic members of the Pro vincial Diet of Brandenburg in the Soviet Zone have been suspended from the party for eritieisms of Russians and of the East German Government 's policy, and one of them had also been dismissed from his employment in the stateowned trading organisation. The charge against all live was that at a recent meeting in Potsdam they expressed reaetionary sentiments. One of them expressed himself disparagingly about Russian -cultiure. Although the meeting was private .the Communists appear to have obtained a full report of what was said. Arrests and suspensions of non-COtnmiinists are also reported in Leipzig, Cottbus and other centres in the Soviet Zone. The Germany News Agency reported last night that Herr Skrobel LiberaJ Democratic Leadei* in Cottbus, fled with his wife to Western Germany ou learning that a wrarrant for his arrest had been issued.
