—Reuter.

ElFects Of U.S. Military Aid Surveyed

Cozniriaht}

Received Friday, 10 a.m. WASHINGTON, Dec. 29. The Atlantie Pact and Military Assistance Programme v had "instilled new confidence in a jittery World," Senator Tom Connally, ehairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told a Fress conference today. He expected that the 1950 appropriation of funds for arming Western Europe would be below the first year, which amounted to 1,000,000,000 dollars. He beJieved that the furnishing of arms to the pact countries would enable the United States to reduce its own defence expenditures. Senator Connally said that recognition of the Chinese Communist regime depended on developments and must be considered by the' United States on the grounds of national interest. "The most important thing we .can do now is to use our influence . and our resources to prevent fur- j ther expansion of Communism in Asia." The United States ^should co-operate with India and Pakistan in preventing Communist expansion.
