Excellent Athletics Provide Numerous Thrills
Visiting • riders and athletes added healthy. compptition to Wednesday's evening sports meeting in Otaki and the public was treated to some first class sport. With several open meetings near at hand, it is evident too that competitors are nearing their best form, and further .thrills can be looked for. With 19 starters in the o-pen cycle events, fields as a result became well bunched and a nasty fall took place as the field t^irned out of the home stretch for the final lap of the three mile race. S. Snowdon, who had rushed into the lead, was being hotly pursued by a bunch, prominent among whom were Des. Shiith, E. Walsh, I. Mudgway, B. Withers and several others, when Snowdon skidded and fell. The situation looked a serious one, with riders toppling over the fallen leader and others veering off into the long grass nearby. Fortunately Snowdon escaped almost unhurt, and one damaged machine was' the only casualty. Results were as follows:— Cycling Events. Junior half mile. — S. Fox 1, D. Garrett 2, A. Mather 3.
