TAUMARUNUI, Dec. 23. - Four yoiing MAori ffieii lost tfieir lives on Lake Rotbair^i in the National P ark area, slioKtly after 5.30 p.m. yesterday. . ... They were : Steve Banks, single ; Manu Patena, about >..2 4, married ; and ' Gabriel Graep',; age about 21, .all of Tokaanu';, and Buddy WilliamsJ age about |- 22, of Ratana. The four men were out fish* : ing on the lake in a dinghy and were putting out a net to catch fish when apparently the boat capsized". The mishap was seen from the shore by Raymond Healey, of Tokaanu, an.d others.. They ' obtained a boat from a nearby bay on the lake shore, but by the time they got to "the scene | of the mishap the four occupants of the dinghy had disappeared, and all they found were their hats floatihg on the water. Darkness came em shortly after and rescue attemots hadto be abandoned for the tinie. being. t This mornjng Senior Ser* geant F; Taylor, of Taumarunui, accompanied. by police from Tokaanu, went to the scene and at ten o'clock had recovered the body of Buddy Williams. Dragging operations are being continued on the lake.
