Levin Entry For Race Down Manawatu River

Levin will be represented in the third Palmerston North-Manawatu Heads boat race, which is due to commence on Monday. Ron Wenham and Noel Ferguson have entered and will sail a canoe; their progress will be watched with interest. When interviewed yesterday Skipper Davy Dilks, who heads the committee organising the event, said that if suffieient entries are forthcoming the race will be divided over;three classes. Class A will be for canoes, class B for rowing boats up to two rowers, and class C for . rowing boats using three or more rowers. Several groups of contestants have been taking their racing seriously with the resjfit that some carefully designed craft which should set up good times, are entered. In the event of insufftcient entries for the three classes, the race will he run on a handicap basis. Entries to hand yesterday comprised the followlng. — Ron Wenham and Noel Ferguson, of Levin (canoe), A. and R, Kelly and G. Collins, of Palmerston North (rqwing boat), N. Jensen and L. Bradfield of Feilding (canoe), P. Sperling, M. Minnell, K. McLean, and P, Batten of Wanganui, B, Gardner, B. Malcolm and W. Stewart, of Palmerstofi North.
