=- - i. Control Qff Qat Price. The price of bats is no longer under control. This was announeed yesterday by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr. Bowden, who- said that a notice revoking the price control on white oats had been gazetted. Heavy Air Mails. Almost six tons of mail have been carried from Auckland to Sydney by Tasman Empire Airways Solent flying-boats in the last nine days. The daily average has been 1413 lb- The heaviest load was taken yesterday, when 2646 lb. was stowed aboard. Normally, abQut 900 lb, of mail is taken to Sydney daily. Car Overturns. In attempting to avoid colliding with a light truck, a small car capsized on to its side on the main highway, near the Weraroa Reserve, about 7,45 p..m. yesterday, The sole occupant, a woman, was unhurt except for an ahrasion on the leg. The car was proceeding southwards along the main highway and the truck, approaching from over the Mako Mako Road level crossing, was turning to proceed northwards. Carolling By Band. Christmas carolling has kept the Levin Municipal 'Band buSy over the past few nights, the borough being covered in . sections. The band recently receiyed a consignment of new instruments, the payment for which has still to be met. Moneys derived from its present activities will go towards that effort and up to last night £71 16s had been collected, The band hopes to reach its objective of £100 and it has still another section of the town to cover. This will be done on Saturday night, when the band will be playing carols in Bartholomew Road, Lindsay Road and Fairfield Road, and also a portion of ' Queen Street West. The band hopes -that citizens will rally round, as in the past, and give the band assistance.
