Members of the Transport Department in this district have now received issues of their new style of uniforms, which. allow for the wearing of eollars and ties. Although the restriction on the purchase of cream was lifted on Monday, many Levin residents are orny taking" advantage of the relaxation to have cream as a Christmas Day treat, reported a local milkman this morning. Although a number have bought cream . for every; day use, the orders placed indicate that the big issue will be made on Christmas Day. Customers placing large orders should have little difficulty as supplies are plentiful at this time of the year.

Christmas Party. - St. Mary's Hall presented a gay scene recently when the Horowhenua Electric Power Board's Social Club held a party for the children of staff members. There were about 35 children in all, up to the age. of 12 years, and every one was treated to an excellent evenings entertainment. Present at the function were the board's managing-secretary, Mr. R. A. Frederikson, and Mrs. Frederikson, and the president of the social club, Mr. R. T. Mortiboy. Ice cream, sweets, cakes and soft drinks were distributed and disappeared with surprising speed. Highlight of the evening was the arrival of Father Christmas who proved a most popular figure with the kiddies. And The Band Played On. Whether it was thankfulness for their annual grant or just to bring a little Christmas goodwill into the December meeting of the Levin Borough Council is uncertain, but nevertheless the Levin Municipal Band decided to treat councillors to a free"sesSion of ■Christmas carols at. its meeting on Monday night. Although the gesture was apprpciated the' band's timing was not, as the council was engaged in a farewell ceremony to a member of its staff and the major part of the "address-in-reply" was lost. The Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, suggested that the band be brought to the council room' and given supper, but the number of bandsmen outnumbered the quantity of cups and refreshment available — the water was not boiling in any ^case. , . . i ,
