MASTERTON, Dec. 17. j The first public duty of the new' Minister of Works (Mr. Goosman) will be iu the Wairarapa. O11 Tuesday Mr.i Goosman will visit South Wairarapa to ! obtain first-hand knowledge of the ■ Pukelto-Makahi spillway scheme. The member for Wairarapa (Mr. B. V. Cooltsley) met the Wairarapa Catchment Board last night aiid announced the arrangements he had made for Mr. Goosman to iiispect the area and for information to be ;given to him. Mr. Cooltsley said' the hew Minister had ordered the scheme to ,be stopped until he had investigated it. It was not the Minister 's intentidn to receive deputations or to accept any motions as his visit was purely an exploratory one so that he could ascertaip the facts for himself. Nor would there be- any public meeting* though he proposed to meet interested patties. Mr, Cooksley added that they would find Air. Goosman a thoroughly practical maq. .
