Union Puts An End To Reign Of Reds
Received Suiulay, 7 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 17. Nine fuiltinie officials of the Transport and General Workers' Union who refused to sign affidavits that they were not members of the Communist or I Fascist Parties, will receive a month 's notice of dismissal next Monday. Announcing this, the union 's general secretary, Mr. Arthur Deakin, said that by next March when the new exeeutive was elected, there would not be' a single Communist official of the union paid or unpaid. At present there were eight Communist members of the exeeutive but under the new rule they would not be eligible for election. "If local branches insisted on nominating any of them, the nominations would be declared invalid, " said Mr. Deaki*. The union i.. Britain's largest with 1,300,000 members.
