Airman's Funeral For Maori Who Was Shot
f . - CHRISTCHUECR, Dec. 16. The funeral took place today of Waata Haumai Moino', the 22-year-old leading aircraftsuian who was shot dead at the R.N.Z.A.P. station at Weedons early on Wednesday.morning. He was buried in the native cemetery on the Main South Road just south of Kaiapoi. At the home of his grandinother in iSouthampton- Street, Sydenham, a flag- . cqvered coffin was carried to the hearse past a line of airmen from Weedons. At the burial ground the coffin was carried to the graveside by relatives. The service was conducted Jiy Rev. K. Scholar, vicar of Prebbleton, and acting chaplain at the air station at Weedons. Among' those present at the house and graveside were a small group of Air F'oree personnel from Weedons under Plight-Lieutenant L. V. Glanvibe, representing the officer commanding at Weedons, accompanied by Flight-Lieu-tenent F. P. Ryer." Inspector T. Holmes, Sub-Inspector J, AIcKie and Renior Detective F. Brady represented the police.
