UNIONS LEARN FROM THE B.M.A
SYDNEY, Dec. 14. Tlie State president of the Australian Labour Party, Mr J. A. Ferguson, a member of the Legislative Council, in stating that it is unlikely that the trade union movement will give the Menzies Government any assistanee or cooperation unless it suits the movement, ' said: "The British Medical Association has given; us an object lesson in hoW not to co-operate with Governments. The trade union movement will give the Menzies Government just as much co-operation as the Britisii Medical Association and other Liberal Party organisations gave the -Cliifley Government. Whether the trade unions Vj.ll agree to representation on any trade union panel set up by the Government is a matter for the movement to determine. " Trade unionists remember that the
employers refused to be represented on" advisory councils proposed by the Curtin, and Chifley Governments. If Mr Menzies wants trade union panels it is certain that he only wants them to make the path of his Government easier. sHe wants co-operation from the trade union movement onrhis own terms. "
