Post Office Holidays.
The Levin Post Office will be closed in all branches except the telephone exchange, " which will observe a continuous service, on December 26 and 27 and January 2 and 3. Normal hours will be observed otherwise. On December 27 and January 3 posting boxes will be cleared at 6 a.m. and mails for both north and south will close at 7.30 a.m. Phones More Plentiful. The position in regard to the availability of telephones and wire -had improved considerahly, but labour was at present the big problem, said the supervisor of the 'Levin telephone exchange yesterday. The waiting list had been reduced from 160 to 101, but applieations were coming in just as quickly as the needs of others were satisfied. Kairanga — The Unknown. A Maori carving from Rotorua is to he placed on the .Clerk's table In the Ulster House of Commons. It is the gift of Sir Milne Barbour, aged 82, chairman of the Linen Thread Company, who visited New Zealand last year, and who is soon leaving Belfast to revisit Australia and New Zealand. In a letter to the Speaker, Sir Milne Barbour sai'd he wished to see as many links as possible be- [ tween the Northern Ireland Parliament and the Empire. Learn To Swim. A Dominion-wide campaign to reduce the summer toli of death by drowning — in the past six years it claimed 720 lives — will be launched on December 27.
