Did Waterside Executive Suspend A Delegate?
TIMARU, Dec. 12. It is stated 011 reliable authority that Mr. P. H. Weith, Timaru delegatd to the biennial confer'ence of the national executive of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union held last week, swas suspended. The motion was put at the beginning of the eonference and had the effect of siiutting out Mr. •Weith from all thd deliberations of the executive. A statement was sought from Mr. Weith yesterday but he refused to comment. It is believed, however, that the measure was a retaliatory one and was aimed at the. Timaru branch 'Which did not align itself with other branc'ae's during the time when the union sought to abolish overtime. As far as is known the Timaru branch did not* break any of the rules of the union and that the action of the executive in suspending Mr. Weith was not justified.
