Three Cars Involved In Highway Smash

NAPIER, Dec. 12. Three;.eare were mvolved in a double collision on a straight stretch of the main highway at Awatoto and-each of the vehicles was extensivfely daniaged. ■ Oue ma'n received severe' laeerations, but the seven other occupants of 'thei vehicles escaped with cuts and bruises. The injured man is Mr Befnard Pil : cher, aged 50 years, of Otane, who was admitted to the Napier Public Hospital with laceratio.ns to the hand and face. His conditipn was stated to be safis* factory. Mr Pilcher was driving south when his vehicie collided with a car being driven north by Mr Brian' Jeffrey Butler, of- Waghorne Street, Pori Ahuriri. This was apparently a glancing, blow and the machine driven by Mr Butler swerved and overturned. There were four passengers in the car being driven by Mr Butler — Misses Joan, Shirley and Lois Green and Mi Rouald Green. Mr Butler received a bruised back, but the other occupants were uninjured. , • ' After the collision with Mr Butler 's car, Mr Pilcher 's vehicie collided with another car, travellmg north and driven by Mr Keith Julius Bourgeois, f)f Ros lyn Road, Napier. The only passenger in Alr Bourgeois ' car, his brother, Mr Edmund Alexauder Bourgeois, also oi Roslyn Road, received lacerations to the face and was treated as an outpatient at the Public Hospital. Mrs Keith Bourgeois received bruises to the legs. . • Each one of the three cars was extensively damaged. The right-hand side of Mr Butler 's car was badiy knoeked about and the froiit of each of the other two vehicles i was wreeked. The, windscreens of the car driven by Mr Pilcher and Mr Bourgeois were shattered.
