Wool Prices Firm At First LET ... Wellington Sale LEVIN
-WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. TJie oficial Teport issued by the Wellington. Woolbrokers' Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers' Assooiation and New Zea-. land Wool Disposal Commission, states that the first Wellington wool sale of ihe l 949 50 season was held today. The catalogues totalled 31,420 bales of new season 's wool. There v\as no offering 11*01x1 the stock pile. The bulk consisted. of good top inaking and spinners' wools with 10 per cent of paper felts wools suitable for the Continent also inolud ed.\ Uddments, many .of them from hogget wool, weri, on the fine side, the majority being suitable .for scouring. Growers, taking advantage of the favourable .weather, had in many instances .-.liorn earlier than usual. This resulted in a fair proportion of the wools being not fully grown. Competition was steady and welJ spread. Principal buying power restn. with the Continent, France in particular lifting a greater weight than pre viously. Bradford was generally on Ihe edge of the niarliet and picked up a small proportion. The U.S.A. was also active. Compared with recent rates, extra fine and fine crossbreds advanced a shade. Medium ' crossbreds, although slightly erratic, may be quoted firm. It was noticeable that in these medium wools there was little or no premium for good style lots. Coarse crossbreds, under strong American competition, advanced 10 per cent. Skirtings wero fully firm. Medium crossbred: Extra super to 36dL,.g.po.d,to super 33d to 34d, good 30d to 33idj average 26d to 291 d. Strong crossbred: Good to supei 44d to 45d, good 42d to 43d, average 37d to 39d. Fine crossbred hogget: Extra. super to 43d. good to super 38d to 4Q4d, good 35d to 37-Jd, average 3 1 d to 34d. Fine crossbred hogget tshorn): Extra super to 40d, good to super 42d to 4od, good 35d to 40d, average ?0£d to 34d. Medium crossbred hogget: Good to super to 37d, good 34^d to o5fd, average 33d to 34d. Medium crossbred hogget (shorn): Good to super 34d to "-1, good 33d to 33Jd, average 32d to 33d.
