British Film Industry Needs Taxation Relief
LONDON, Dee. G. THe. official committSe set up bv the President of the Board of Trade to analysfe the plight Of the British film industry has reported to the Government that tbo" tnueh taxation is being squeezed frbih the industry. It rekommfendfed that the entertaihfnent tax should bfe eut all round, but with a ebmpehsatihg Customs tariff on the value of impofted films. The report says State ownership is hot appropriate to film-making, which needs thfe freb exercise ,of individual bnterprish, slcill, hnd craftsmanship. It is also considbred impraetical to break hp the two big inonopolies— ^Bank 's and the Assoeiatfed Britisli Bicture .Gorporation. These two control more than 70 per cent. of Britain's biggest picture theatres.
