District Guide Commissioner Retires

Otaki company, accompariied by a large grqupi of .parerics and frierids, spent a,. mcst enjoyable evening in St. Mary's Hall recently, when a frinctiori was hel'd to farewell Mrs. Kirkcaldie, who has resigned her pbsitiori as district commissioner. The occasion served a joint purppse, a welcpme being extended to Mrs. F. D. Chainey, who succeeds Mrs. Kirkcaldie. The president of the local association, Mrs. L. J. Hunter, paid fcribute to the work of Mrs. Kirkcaldie, whp had at all times giyeft her wholehearted support to the cetterment of the movement. "Mrs. Kirkcaldie's interest has always been most active, and the cpnsiderable tiriie and energy she has 'vievoted to the cause has not been in vain/' commented the speaker. The divisional commissioner, Mrs. Haylock, endorsed these remarks. ■ The guide captain, Miss P. Prendeville, . presented Mrs. Chainey with a gift on behalf of the First Levin Company, and Guides Nancy Parsons and Leonie Gentry presented floral tributes to Mesdames Hunter and Chainey. On behalf of the . guides, Miss Prendeville thanked Mrs. Chainey for all she had done ■ for the movement and welcomed her to her new position. Replying, Mrs. Chainey expressed her thanks for the tributes paid to her and said that she felt sure she would be most happy in her new position. Later in the evening- games and competitions were arranged. Items rendered by guides and brownies were much appreciated by those present. A most enjoyable function was coricluded with the singing of "Taps."
