iteceived Sunday, 7 p.m, NEW YORK, Deo, 3. Synthetie „ fabrics ; possesslng all the warmth and durability of wool, would be produced in five .years, Mr. A. E. Buchanan, an-executlve of E. I. Dupont de Nemours, told : the Textile Reaearch Institute to-. day, He said that eertain experimental suiting fabries aiready produced surpassed wool in its -'■woolliness" and had proved many times. stronger than . the natural. fibre in abrasion tests. Mr. Buchanan said he did not wish to disoredit the -claiiiis of wool manufacturers that the weaving qualities of wool should not he duplicated. ■ He conceded that re~ search was aiding the wool industry to Cpiek up. where the sheep left off" and maintain its unique position against synthetie competltioni Nevertheless, it seemed inevitable that -progressive designers of textile machinery would soon realise that the limitation oi streiigth, cohesiveness and friction imposed on their designs by the . older fibres, could be removed with the new synthetics. These would permit the use of faster and simpler machines.
