Athletic Club's Committee Holds Meeting

The committee of the Otaki Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club met on Thursday to discuss varioUs matters in cohnectioruwith their annual sports meeting, to be, held on January, 7. Afrangements • were reported to be progressing | most . satisfactorily. Entries "are/ already coming to hand, with the closing date,. Deeember 15, still two weelcs off. Official advice from the centre confirming the nomination of Des. Smith as a competitor at the national provincial championships, to be held in Auckland on Deeember 17, was read. It was felt that the general public would probably welcome the ooportunity of -showing their appreciation of the recognition this fine young rider s efforts have earned, and it was agreed that the collection at the evening sports on Wednesday next be devoted towards defraying the cost of his travelling expenses. It was further reported to the meeting that another member, lan Mudge, had been invited .to compe'Le iri the trials to take place in Wellington bn Deeember 10. Mr. J.- Mudge advised that as his son would be required to compete agaipst senior runners of the calibre of Neil Bates and Dave Batten, title holders, the invitation had been declined. Confirmation of the willingness of physical ' welfare instructors to assist members and the club was reported to . the meeting. As a conference of instructors is to be held in Otaki during the^next fortnight, it was agreed that as many as would care to attend be invited to the next evening sports meeting. Mr. Mudge was deputed to maks further arrangements regarding the holding of a cluo training night each week when instructors will be in attendance. Delegates to meet Levin and district representatives to discuss Hunter Shield rules for the cui*rent season were appointed. Messrs F. Edwards (president), M. Seal and T. Stevens (handicappers) , N. Gofdbn (club captain) and C. Pussell (starter) were the club's nominees.
