He Believes In The British Empire
Received Friday, 8,50 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 2. "The leader of th,e victorious National Party in New Zealand, Mr. Holland, has in his pronouncements since the eleetion results were announced shown both modesty and good jsense," says the Evening News editorialiy. "In one of his first comments upon his victory he spoke forthright good sense about the British Empire- — and most welcome of all — he talked about the British Empire, not about some wishy washy half synonym devised* to cairn the susceptibilities of Bengaii Brahmins, and in the pathetic delusion that those who hate the British Empire and seek to„ destroy it will be per- : suaded it really does not exist. "Too many Socialists made a tardy and reluetant discovery of • the British Empire. Nervous in ; their conversion, they prefer a new foggier name for it. it is \ heartening as • weli as aptly symholical that the man who has so \ seundly troxjnced them in New Zealand should at once use the old| and true word."
