Ex-M.P.'s Eligible For Pensions
Four members of the last Parliament become eligible to draw Parliamentary pensions, They are the t'ollowing, two having been defeated at the polls ana two (marked with an asterisk) having retiTed: — £ Mr. F. Langsto'ne (I.L., Roskill) 400 *Mr. D. W. Coleman (L., Gisborne.) 400 Mr. L, E. CuJlen (L., Hastings) 375 *Mr, C. R. Petr-ie (L., Otahuhu) 375 Total pensions payable £^1550 Mt. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister of Industr.ies. and- Commerce, who was defeated- fQt the Oamaru seat, has spent 14 years in; Parliament and on the basis of servi.ee, is. entitled to a pension of £375 a year. However, he is aged only * 48 and Un,der; the terms. of the Act is nqt entitled to draw. it, till he.is 50. All those drawing per&ions have first to make up their contributions, so tar, only £100, to £250. Mr. G. H. Mackley, former National member for Wairarapa, who has retired, and. other defeated candidates, Dr. &. M. Finlay- (L., North Shore), Messrs A. C. Baxter (L., Raglan), T. E. Bkinner (L., Tamaki) and G. H. Ormond Wilson (L., Palmerston North), have not been long enough in Parliament to qualify for- pensions. ; They may withdraw the £100 they have paid in during. the last two years.
