Atlantic Defence Plan Given Unanimous Approval

Received Friday, 10.35 a.m. - PARIS, Sept. 1. The twelve Atlantic Pact nations reached "unanimous agreement" tonight on the master plan to defend themlelves against any possible aggression.by Russia. A communique issued after a, five-hour meeting of the Defence Ministers' said that ,he Ministers gave full apordval to a strategic concept ^or the integrated defence of ;he North Atlantic area and :he provision of a programme *or the production and supply )f armanlents and equipment. Officials described the master ilan — approved by the Ministers after earlier agreement. 3y the service chiefs — as a sober warning to any possible iggressor that Western Surope, backed by the might >f the United States, stands *eady to defend itself. Leading military planners of ;he Western world hailed the igreement as "the path to nternational peace and securty." Immediately after the secret session, the American Defence Secretary, Mr. Louis Johnson, md the American Army'Chief if Staff, General Omar Bradiey, left by air for Washington :o take the plan to President fruman. Final approval by President Truman will release 11357,000,000 worth of military aid for Europe to give the plan fs teeth.
