Early Summer Wedding At Shannon

Guests aird interested friends were present at St. Joseph's Roman Ca'tholic Church for the occasion of the onarriage of two 'of Shannon's well known -young folk on the morning of Saturday, Novemtoer 5, 1949. The contracting part-ies were Doreen Josephine, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ritchie, Stafford Street, Shannon, and Stanley Douglas, only son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Pedersen, Grand Street, Shannon. The officiating minister was the Rey. Father Walsh, of Foxton, and Mrs. T. Moynihan presided at the organ. The church was decorated with orange blossom, blue iriges and Iceland poppies. Escorted by her father the bride made a eharming picture in her gown of pure white satin. The skirt was composed of five net edged tiers, the battom tier forming a short train. The bodice was gathered on to a peaked frontal embroidered with pearls and silver bead flowers and featured a narrow lace yoke whieh formed the V neck line. The long fitting sleeves were slit from shoulder to elbow, the slits foeing outlined with a double row of silver beads. A beautiful three-quarter length silk embroidered net veil was held to the head by a coronet of qrange blossom and hyacinths and she carried a bridal bouquet of White miniature gladioli, roses and asparagus tied with satin ribbon to form streamers. The only omament worn was a gold cross suspsnded from a slender ehain, whibh was more than 30 years old and belonged to the hridels mother. In attendanee as matron-of-honour, was a friend, Mrs. V. Guerin, of Kingston Road, Shannon, herself a bride only a few weeks previously. Her blue crepe frock was ground length and fully flared while the gathered bodice had a low neck line and short puffed sleeves. She wore' a coronet of blue net and flowers and carried a bouquet of bright pink miniature gladioli with a trailer of birch studded with flowers and tied with . blue satin ribbon to form long streamers. Suspended from a fine chain round her neck was a gold cross, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was attended by his cousin, Mr. John Johnsqn, of Lower Hutt. Following the ceremony about 90 guests were reeeived by Mr. and Mi's. Ritchie in the Parish Hall where the wedding breakfast was enjoyed. The bride 's mother wore a black suit made with an embroidered peplum, a green felt hat trimmed with black, black aceessories and a spray of pink roses and cyclamen. An off-white coat was wom over a brown frock by the bridegroom's mother with tan aceessories and a spray of golden flowers. Iceland poppies decorated the tables and surmounting the three tier wedding cake, whieh was beautifully iced in white with touches of blue, was a silver vase of freezias and maiden hair fern. The usual toasts were honoured, Mr. Roy Hook acting as toastmaster. Further hospitality was offered the guests when later they went to the bride's parents' home to view the many beautiful presents bestowed on the young couple. Later the happy. couple left for the North. For travelling the bride wore a green accordion pleated frock, green coat and black aceessories. Amorfgst the relatives who came for the wedding from Auckland, Te Kuiti, Palmerston North, and Wellington was the bride's paternal grandfather, Mr. A. J. Ritche, of Lower Hutt. Mr. and Mrs. Pedersen, have taken up their resi'dence in Shannon.
