Lords Again Vote Against Parliament Bill
Received Wednesday, 9.10 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 29. The House of Lords, with its big Conservative majority, today rejected by 110 votes to 37 the Government s Bill designed to curb its powers. This is the third time the Lords have rejected the Bill — the Parliament Bill — which reduces their power to delay legislation passed by the House of Commons from two years to one. The Bill will automatically Become law in spite of the Lords' opposition. This will be done under the Parliament Act of 1911, which the present Bill amends. It provides tnat a Bill may be enacted over the heads of the House of Lords if the Commong have passed it three times in successive sessions within two years. This has been done. Royal assent to the Parliament Bill is expected before Christmas.
