Unexpected Donation To War Memorial Hall
Late in 1946 Shannon foecame interested in the popular sport of girls' marching. The next year saw the sport flourish locally, but unfortunately in 1948, owing to many of the girls leaving the town to find employment in the cities and" others marrying, the three Shannon teams disbanded. A sum Of £19 15s still remained in the care of the. local eommittee and it was recently decided to donate this to the War Memorial Hall "Committee so that it could ■be put to a worthwhile cause. On Tuesday evening the opportunity was taken 4 at the music recital in the Parish Hall to publicly make the donation to Mr. R. R. Lind, chairman of the Memorial Hall Committee. Mr. Lind extended thanks to the marching committee for the generous gesture and said that money would be used in connected with the erection of the memorial hall. In that way those who had con.tributed the money would benefit from the community centre which was to toe the town's war memorial. / N MUSICAL RECITAL AIDS FUND The annual musical recital arranged by Mrs. R. R. Lind was held in the Parish Hall on Monday and Tuesday of last week. Both performances . attracted capacity houses and over 40 of those who saw the first night's entertainment were again present on the Tuesday night. • As the result £34 was handed over to the Shannon War Memorial Hall Committee. In aeceptihg the amount, Mr. Roy Hook, secretary of the hall committee, expressed sincere thanks to Mrs. Lind, her pupils and Miss Jean Scott and her pupils, who had assisted with the programme, and to the committee connected with the recital. Mr. Hook mentioned that the memorial hall* fund now totalled over £1700 and this was a very fine effort. The M.C. for the recital was Mr. J. T. Bovis and. the aceompanists were Mrs. F. O. Burtt and Miss Ruth Stevenson. At the conclusion of Tuesday.
night's programme, Mrs. J. T. Bovis presented the certificates and prizes won , at the recent music examinations. Bruce Stern was awarded the advaneed theory trophy, thus 'winning the cup outright. The progress prize "was awarded to Patrica Edmonds. On the first night's programme piano duets 'were played by Beverly Dujany f and Mary Hennessy, Bruce Stern and Julie Gor-. don, Mary Harkness . and Molly Lind, Robin. Stevenson and Michael Harkness and Joan Whyte and Patricia Edmonds. Piano solos were rendered by Margaret Whyte, Patricia Edmonds, Rosanne Cane and Tony Pope.' Bruce Lind presented a violiii solo/ Brian Morrison entertained with two songs and re'citations were rendered by Lorraine Vinsen and Kay Collins. Six dance numbers were presented by Miss Scott's pupils. On both programmes was a play produced by Mrs. J. D. Campbell and entitled- "The Wicked .Elves." The cast wa's Beverly Dujany, Michael Harkness, Judy Bowler, Lorraine Vinsen, Janice McEwen, Ralph Wishart and John Denton. . The second night's programme \ included piano duets by Patricia Edmonds and Joan Whyte, Bruce Stern and Julie Gordon, Beverly Dujany and Mary Hennessy, Robin Stevenson and .Michael Harkness and Mary Harkness and Molly Lind. Piano solos were presented by . Margaret Whyte, Patricia Edmonds, Beverley Miers, Rosanne Cane and Tony Pope. Brian Mor- ( rison again entertained with . songs. Lorraine Vinsen and Kay Collins presented recitations and Brucg Lind violin solos. June Teague also entertained with vocal numbers and five dance numbers were rendered by Miss j Scott's pupils. Although the perj formers were much the same bn I both nights, a eomplete change of numbers was * presented.
