2000 British Teachers Said To Be Communists
. Received Tuesday, 9.15 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 28. Mr. C. O. T. Giles, former president of the National Union of Teachers, claimed at the national congress of the British Communist Party at Liverpool that 2000 school teachers in Britain were Communists. He added that the interests of Britain's school children were being sacrificed in the interests of armaments. "It costs £400 to train a conscript and only £35 to train a ehild," he sai'd. Congress deeided to put 100 candidates into the field at the I next general qlection to support | the following points : To raise ! wages, extend social services, develop trade with Russia and the Chinese People's Republic, and military expenditure, and to take over shipping, shipbuilding engineering, building and land.
