Enjoyable Evening Sports
Apart from. an unfortunate spill in the final lap of the open five mile cycling event, the Otaki Amateur Athletic Club's weekly evening sports meeting was most enjoyable, with many exciting moments for the good crowd in attendance. With new competitors continuing to appear, to date there has been ample variety provided'. From a competitor's view, as well as • that of the spectators, keener sport is ibeing created week after week. It was a minor disaster that six of the ciosely bunched competitors should have been eliminate'd in the big cycle race of the night. The mishap occurred in front of the stand. Prominent riders in D. Smith, who was in the lead, I. Mudgway, M. Harper, W. Walsh and others, all in challenging positions, came down. Apart from one "mangled" machine, riders and the other machines happily escaped. The remaining two conteslants, as it happened, fought out a thrilling finish, with Smith remounting for third.
