Tt was the second night of violeTice 1'or Pauanui in the nnrest whieh has followed tlie ousting- of President Daniel Chants by the national poliee and his replaeement by Boberto 'hiari. Poliee and stndents exehanged heavy fire but there are no reports of casuaities. The poliee besieged a nnmber of stndents insile the Univei-sitv building. The United Press correspondent said the stndents were meeting in the nnivcrsity to protest against Ihe reeent poliee eoup. Many stndents fled to the safety of the. United States' Punanui Canal Zone jnst aeross the street froin Ihe university buildings. The poliee apparently beeame enraged v hen sevnral stndents began cat-ealling ' en;iing squad ears. Larlier in Ihe evening the poliee, u-nu; heavv niaehineguns, prevented a nuiss ineeting whieh was planned by ipporters of Presideftt Uhanis to pro'e«t. against the "nnlitarv dietatorship. " The poliee broke np erowds forming yar Santa Aua Plaza in the heart ot the eity, |0 attond a rallv ealled by ihe stndents' federation.
