Main Highway Reconstruction Under Way

As a result of urgent representations made b.y the Otaki Bor--ough Couneil to the Works Department ot undertake the recon-' struction of the main highway passing thro'ugh Otaki Railway, ,a letter has been received by the couneil' from the district engineer advising that the reconstruction of the section between Mill and Waerenga Roads is to be undertaken immediately. Men and maehinery have already commenced the work, and when completed the road will conform to the largest standard of. highways and will be sealed to a width of 48 feet. The estimated cost is £13,000. In addition, footpaths are to be constructed and will extend a further 40 ehains south of Waerenga Road towards the Otaki River Bridge at a cost of an additional £3500, of which the council's share is £600. The completion of this work will greatly improve the access to the borough and mark an important slage in its present progressive development.
