Battle Against Polio At Stalemate

Received Tuesday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, Nov. 21. Dr. Ralph Scobey, associate professor of pediatrics in the Syracuse University School of Medicine, elaimed today that the 41-year battle against infantile ' paralysis had reached a stalemate. Dr. Scobey, who has been appointed president of the newly organised Poliomyelitis Research Institute, added: "The current epidemic, the most widespread in our history, continues to sweep the nation despite vigorous efforts by men of the medical world to check it." Dr. Scobey said the institute would undertake a reappraisal of the poliomyelitis problem and encourage unlimited research in the cause, prevention and treatment of the disease.
