Good Whitebait Catch.es. Towards the latter end of last week there was another good run of whitebait in the Paiaka area. Several eatch.es were made of six pounds -and up. . Thp season is now drawing to a clos'e and apart from one or two good runs thei bait have not been plentiful this' year. Athletic Season. '' The Shannon Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will open its 1949 season tomorrow evening^ when the first of a series of weekly evening meetings will be held, A working bee speait most of the weekend on the grounds and cycle traek, which are now in excellent condition. Given favourable weather, fhere should be a big gathering. Music Recital. The Shannon and Districts War Memorial Hall Committee will benefit from the annual recital given by the pupils of Mrs. R. R. Lind in the Parish Hall tonight and tomorrow night. Also assisting on the programme will be the pupils of Miss Jean Scott, the well-known dancing teacher, from Levin. Tickefcs have met with a ready sale and it is expected that there will be a good attendance at both performances.
