Maori Drowned ln River
AUCKLAND, Nov. 20. While swimming from a barge oi the. -Thames River on Saturday evening, a Maori deckhand got into difficulties and was drowned. He was: — fOHISi MAUCOLM SMYTH, a .aem-e-of the erew of the barge Naumai which Had been getting ''and trom the Puriri baiik in the river. After they had secured a load, Smyth, with some other members of the erew, went in for a swim. He was said to be a poor swimmer. He got into difficulties in the tidal current and disappeared. Mr. T. Kingi, a member of the erew tried to reseue him but failed. Smyth 's body has not yet been found.
