Shannon School Committee's Monthly Meeting

In Sbls report to the ShannonSchool Committee for Ocfcober, the, headmaster, Mr. F. O. Burtt, stated' that the school roll stood at 164 boys and. 155 girls, a total of *319 pupils. During the month twb pupils •have been admitted' and eight withdrawn. The attendance averaged 151 boys and 141 girls. There have been no staff changes during October. The district nurse, Sister Macdonald, had carried out her routine inspection of pupils. The school was closed on Friday, November 4, in order to allow pupils an. opportunity of visiting the Royal Show at Palmerston North. The visit had been worth while from. an educational starrdpoirit. The sound film projector which had been purchased through the generosity of the school jubilee committee, had arrived and several instructive films had been screened at the school. Although a local business firm" had been endeavouring to procure suitable material for blacking out the windows, this had so far been unsuecessful and it had been found necessary to show the films in the corri'dor of the main buLding in place of the double room which was the most suitable. The maintenance work had now been completed on the swimming baths and these were now open as it was considered that the weather was sufficiently warm to warrant the commencement of the swimming season. The October meeting of the Parentteachers' Association was addressed by Mr. M. A Nixon, of Palmerston North. The November meeting was held on November 14 and was addressed by officers of the Wellington Automobile Association and films of general and educational interest shown. The school was indebted to Mr. S. J. Free for the gift of two boxes of plants for the gardens. Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Williams were also to be thanked for cqntributions for the. garden.
