New Light On Books Of Bible
Reeeived Friday 7 p.m. NEW YORK, Nov. 17. Scholars liave discovered "hundreds of differences" between the wording of the 200 , years oid Book of Isaiah found in the. Holy Land in 1947, and the text of the King James version of the Bible. Dr. John Trever, head of the Bible department oi the International Council, m disclosmg this in Ohicago today, said a revised English Bible incorporating some oi the Isaiah text, would be publishea in 1952. The new version, he. declared, "may well he to the Twentieth Cen tury what the publication of Kmg James' Bible meant to Seventeenth Century England. ' ' He added that the Isaiah text would be a rich contribution to the background of Jesus' life and heip make the Bible mean more to the average person. One oi the most signmcant unaings, Dr. Trever said, was that the basic message of the oid writings had come down virtually intact. Both the Book of Isaiah -and the Book of Lamech were found in a cave in the Holy Land by a goatherd boy. It is expected the text oi • both books will be published next April. Dr. Trever said scholars in several countries had confirmed the authen ticity "of the. scrolls beyond any doubt. The Isaiah scroll was incrib ed about 125 B.C. and was accepted by a council for inclusion in the Oid Testament about 90 A.D. One mistake in the King James Bible, revealed by comparison with the Isaiah text, was in the story oi Hezekiah's sickness and recovery. The two last verses teil of Isaiaa advising Hezekiah's cure. Scholars have believed the verses should come after the sixth verse and the scroll confirms this theory.
