Three members of the New Zealand women 's tennis team — Misses Potter, | Attwood and Kerr — won their first | round of the women 's singles matches in the New South Wales tennis championships today. The three younger members of the New Zealarid team, Misses MacGibbon, Burke and Becroft, were defeated. ' Results (New Zealanders mentioned first) : — Miss Burke lost to Miss C. Proctor 5 — 7, 4 — 6; Miss MacGibbon lost to Miss D. Ivent 6 — 4, 2 — 6, 1 — 6; MisR Becroft lost to Miss V. Ashford 3 — 6, 1 — 6; Miss Attwood beat Miss A. Hattersley 6 — 3, 6 — 0; Miss Potter beat Miss P. Finn 6—4, 3 — 0 (Miss Finn retired); Miss Kerr beat Miss M. Bleazard 6—1, 1—6, 6—1. f
