Anglican Church's Bazaar
The Church of England Ladies' Guild held its annual bazaar and • sale of work in the Parish Hall recentiy. The offlcial opening ceremony was conducted by Rev. G. B. Stote-Blandy, of Levin, who was at one tjime Vicar of the Shannon parish. On be- v half of the guild members the president, Mrs. R. G. Lester, presented a bouquet to Mrs. StoteBlandy. Excellent business was done by the various-stalls during the afternoon and the sum raised should go a long way towards the achieving of the object to which the proceeds of the bazaar are to be donated, that of enlarging the supper-room of the Parish Hall, which is now the only hall remaining in Shannon. A band of energetic ladies was in charge of the saies and the various stallholders were as follows:— Sweets: Miss V. Munford, Mesdames D. Harris, W. C. Tricker and H. Stern; produce: Mesdames R. Roberts and A. Thomson; cakes; Mesdames I. F. Leng-Ward, A. H. Riehards and E. Chester; sewing * and fancy goods: Mesdames E. L. Hyde and R. H. Charter; jumble: Mesdames P. J. Wright and C. Parr; tea-rooms: Mesdames W. Pickard, G. W. Munford and R. P. Lester. The nail driving competition was won by Mr. N. Munford. Other competitions were won by Mrs. C. G. Wishart, Mr. B. Taylor, Mr, J. Campbell, Mesdames E. Chester . and F. Young and Mr. A. L. North. The evening's entertainment took the form of a dance and was well attended by young people from all parts of the district. At a suitable juncture after supper, the Rev. M. J. S. Wheeler expressed his sincere thanks to all those who had assisted by giving produce and other saleable goods to the stalls, to the ladies of the guild v/ho had worked so hard to make the bazaar the success which it was, and to the general public for' their excellent support in both. the bazaar and dance.
