Eggs Will Continue To Be Bought By Dozen
WELLINGTON, Nov. 16. The good old-fashioned metliod of buying eggs by the dozen is to continue. Information reeeived in Wellington stated that the second attempt at Tauranga to sell eggs by weigkt had broken down. Officials were a. littie touchy when the subjeet was mentioned and one gathered that it will be a long time before a third try is. made. After the failure of the first attempt in Gisborne earlier in the year, Tauranga was seleeted as the testing ground for the big experiment, and the authorities went to eonsiderable trouble to prepare the way. All the interested parties had agreed to the trial, but with a hitch here and there time dragged. • The final hold-up was caused by the diffieulty in getting suitable scales. Eventually a second-hand set was loeated, but by the time the official appropriation came through for the purchase someone else had nipped in and bought it. , Coming'on top of weelcs of delay, this was the final blow and the experiment brolce down completely — collapsed under its own wait, so to speak. CONTROL OF BBAN AND POLLARD A meeting of the executive committee of the Wellington Registered Pouitrykeepers ' Assoeiation supported by af&liated associations of Marton, Wanganui, Masterton, Hastings, Taradale, New Plymouth, Stratford, Hawera, Levin, Hutt, Marlborough and Nelson, yesterday resolved to send a telegram to the Prime Minister registering a strong protest at the proposal to abolish the control on pollard and bran scheduled to come into effect at the end of Deeember. It was considered grave damage would be inflieted on the industry and egg production reduced.
