Purse Restrictions Puts End To Boxing Bout
AUCKLAND, Nov. 14. A proposal to stage an open-air welterweight professional boxing eontest iu Auckland between the Australian aborigine George Kapeen, and the Ne\v Zealand champion, Clarrie Gordon, of Otahuhu, will probably be cancelled in response to the application of the Auckland Boxing Association to stage the contest for a percentage purse of up to £750. The New Zealand council today ruled that the maximum alloivable purse would be £500. Througli his manager, Mr Eric Horan, Gordon said he would not fight for this purse. The council 's ruling was made in the belief that the proposed fight did not warrant a purse of up to £750. It was communicated tonight to the .president of the Auckland Association, Mr C. Rex Moore, by the chairman, Mr R. Simp , son, after the Auckland match committee earlier in the day had had a meeting in committee. The Auckland association so far does not intend to appeul against the decision. "The council's ruling is final," Mr Moore said. "There is no chance whatever of the •bout taking place with a maximum i purse of £500, said Mr Horan. ' 1 Gordon would not consider it."
