Personal. Mr. K. Wood, of the Wellington Police Force, has returned to the city safter spending a short leave with his parents, Mr. and, Mrs. T. Wood, Venn Street. Many Attend Races. The . Feilding Racing Cluh's meeting is always a popular meeting for Shannon followers of the sport and Satnrday's fixture was no exception. A well-filled hus carried local followers to Feilding and, in spite of some delay^in arriving back home, all reporued an enjoyahle day. Dragline At Work. The Manawatu Catchment Board's dragline is at present at work cleaning out the Tokomaru Stream. The work has commenced at the mouth of the stream near the Shannon Bridge and will proceed up stream. It is not yet known when the major scheme will be undertaken by the fooard on the Tokomaru. Fotato Shortage. Although. potatoes are still in j^hort supply in Shannon, it is hoped that the position will ibe relieved somewhat in ithe near future. Many acres of potato crops in the Opiki distriet are coming along very well, but it will be some time before these are ready for digging. The Opiki crops are well up to f ormer years and good yields are expected. Coming-of-Age Party. Local friends and visitors from 'all parfs of the distriet gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Saunders, Thompson Street, on a recent evening to celebrate the "coming-of-age of Mr. Ron Saunders, who is well-known in racing circles as a promising jockey. During the evening the opportunity was taken by Mr. Colin Mortimer, on behaif of the visitors, to congratulate the guest of honour on Teaching his majority and wish him may years of success in the future. Mr. Saunders, Senr., also wished his son 'success and 'handed him the customary "key of the door." Mr. Ron Saunders thanked the visitors and his parents for the very enjoyable evening and the many good wishes he had reoeived. Domain In Good Order. The courts are now in good order with every promise of a suecessful season. , Election Campaign Opens. With the general election little more than two weeks away, very little enthusiasm has been rousea in Shannon. Only those interested enough to listen to the various speakers per medium of the radio have had a taste of electioneering, although the buses which1 travelled to Foxton and Levin to hear the addresses of the Minister of Transport and the Prime Minister were well filled with local supporters. The actual campaign will open in Shannon on Thursday evening when Mr. R. M. Algie, M.P., National Party eandidate for Remuera, will address electors in the Renown Theatre, commencing at 8 p.m. Mr. Algie is speaking on behaif of Mr. M. H. Oram, National eandidate for Manawatu, who is recovering from a recent operation. It is understood that Mr. B. A. Rogers, the Labour eandidate for the Manawatu, will address electors in the theatre on Thursday, November 24.
