VESSEL CAPSIZES WITH BIG LOSS OF LIFE
Received Monday, 10 a.m. TOKIO, Nov. 13. At least six are dead and 44 missing following the capsizing of the 138-ton passenger vessel Mishima Maru in the inland Sea, near Kobe. The survivors number 10. It is officially stated that 60 persons were aboard the vessel, but the actual figure may never be known as there are frequently many stowaways and non-paying passengers aboard such vessels. The Mishima Maru developed a dangerous list and in a strong wind the captain was unable to change course before she capsized. The captain, his wife, two members of the crew and two passengers were among those rescued. Attempts will be made tomorrow to locate the sunken vessel. The maritime authorities are investigating the cause of the disaster following allegations that the vessel left the dockyard after repairs without a proper clearanee.
