Why British Worker Does Not Want Overtime
Received Wednesday, 8.50 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 9. While industrialists ffenerally support Mr. Herbert Morrison's suggestion that the man who does a better day's work than the next man should be entitled to correspondingiy better earnings, many of them feel that hfgh taxation often outweighs the incentive provided by production bonuses, says the Yorkshire Post's industrial correspondent. A representative of one big engineering concern said: "If Mr. Morrison would ensure that the man who works overtime benefits from it everybody would be happy. In some shops production is not as great as it should be because the men are not prepared to pay back to the Government nine shillings in every pound they earn above a certain sum." A number of other industrialists urgecl the general adoption of incentive bonus schemes throughout the country.
